The Power of "I Am''
Over the Memorial
weekend, I took the train from Connecticut to DC and had the pleasure of
spending time with a very dear friend of mine who I had not seen in some time.
In between our chats, during which we reflected on our time together over the
last 20+ years and the adventures going on in our lives currently, we spent long
periods of time laughing for no apparent reason. We also watched an Oprah
episode called Living With Grace with Wayne Dyer. Oprah traveled to Hawaii to
speak with Dr. Dyer, called the Father of Motivation, in a conversation they
called Soul to Soul. He's so convincing and what he says makes sense to me.
During his conversation, he talked about the power of "I Am". I have been
pondering the power of "I Am" since I saw the show. He was sharing a message I
know well and have incorporated into my life, though I have been inconsistent.
The premise is simple, yet profound. The words we say have significant power.
The energy we send out comes back to us. The universe responds to what we offer
it. Many people spend a lot of time spinning in a lower vibration. They
anticipate the worst case scenario. They verbalize their constant bad luck. They
say nothing good ever happens to them and they wonder why their lives are so
miserable. I often reflect on the notion of what we ask for we receive.
Dr. Dyer suggests that no matter what your current circumstance, you verbalize
what it is you envision yourself/your life to be. Let's say you are not as
compassionate a person as you would like to be. You can say "I will be a more
compassionate person", or you can say "I am a compassionate person". With the
first choice, two years from now you can still be saying the same thing -- "I
will be a more compassionate person". But I believe that if you say, starting
now, "I am a compassionate person", you start to become that. Your vibration
rises to the occasion. You feel compassion, so now you can become it. Others who
are compassionate will be drawn to you. It is a powerful energy -- this
embracing of "I Am".
So I am in the midst of the "I Am" experience. With nice, deep, heartfelt
breaths, I found myself in a peaceful place and wrote down all the I Ams that I
felt connected to. I moved aside the sometimes loud voice that says I'm not
capable or worthy or abundant and replaced it with the vibration that I Am ...
I Am healthy
I Am Capable
I am Worthy
I Am Blessed
I Am Abundant
I Am a Positivoligist
I Am a Healer
I Am Grateful
I Am a Good Listener
I Am Loving
I am here to be of service to others
So, what are you? At the
very core of your being, you know. Open your heart, release the fear and embrace
the best you. The true you. The most authentic you. Don't question where you are
now; just trust what and who you are meant to be. You have nothing to fear by
dancing in the light of "I Am". Just keep believing and move forward,
articulating the worthy life that you deserve.
So open your heart and repeat -- I Am. Know that the I Ams that you are meant to
embrace will make themselves known. Now dance with it!
When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or
condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the
only way to dissolve that link and get free.
~ Catherine Ponder
Our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world...as in being
able to remake ourselves
Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself
what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs
is people who are alive.
~ Howard Thurman
Enlightenment is understanding that there is nowhere to go, nothing to do,
except exactly who you're being right now.
