Being Present - Living In The
Moment.
There is something deliciously calming
about living in the moment. Do you find yourself in such
a rush that you don't experience the journey? Are you
impatient with your kids, co-workers or the elderly lady
at the grocery store who is moving at a lackadaisical
pace? And what about those obnoxious drivers on the
highway who are always going too fast or too slow?
When did we become so impatient? I recall reading a
study some time ago that said that viewers want the
images on the movie screen to change every four seconds
in order to keep their attention. The ability to move
around on the Internet keeps getting faster and faster,
keeping up with our thirst for speed.
Let's just STOP. We equate moving slowly or methodically
with wasting time and it's not necessarily so. We are in
such a hurry because we have important things to do and
people to see. But once we are doing those things and
seeing those people, we often rush so that we can move
on and charge through the next task. I suspect many of
you have had the experience of having someone speed past
you down the road just to find yourself right next to
this same person at the next stop light. I'd call that
the "hurry up and wait" syndrome.
Your mind, body and soul deserve your undivided
attention. Practice living in the moment and having
patience will start to come naturally. As a matter of
course, when you appreciate the now, your levels of
tolerance and appreciation grow. And that makes for a
happier you -- and who among us doesn't want to be
happier?
Try eating dinner while sitting down, not standing at
the kitchen counter with the TV on, while reading the
paper or going through the mail. Eat without any other
distractions. Relish the taste of the food in your
mouth. Delight in its aroma. This is but one example of
"savoring" the moment, but it can apply to any and all
of your daily activities. And on that note - I'm hungry.
I'm going to sit down to dinner and enjoy the meal...one
leisurely bite at a time. Bon Appetite!

present moment is to act or accept, but never stay
stuck."
John Kuypers, author of What's Important Now and The

of its resistance patterns, and you can then allow the
present moment to be."

here. We can give all our attention to the opportunity
before us."
Mark Van Doren, (1894-1972) poet, author, American

"It is a mistake to look too far ahead. The chain of
